3 A.M. Commercial St. Provincetown, MA
As with most things, this painting is way more impessive in person. You can come see it for yourself at my studio in Artisan Works. It is most often mistaken for a photograph. I like painting images that are photo real, with the exception of the fact that doing so generally creates a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders. Photo realistic paintings are not as forgiving as my more loose and freestyle abstracts, non-reps and florals, it is an exercise in control. I used to own an Olympus D450 zoom which took the most amazing night shots I've as yet to see in any other camera of comparable price. The photo used for reference for this painting was one such example of its capability. As odd and erie as the light seems in this painting, I did not stray far from what I saw in that photograph taken one foggy morning on Commercial St near the Post Office.
